Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?

Undergraduate, PhD and Masters students of any Animal Science field currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.

How do students participate?

Students must submit a scientific paper based on a topic involving Alltech's animal feed technologies. Topics are published on our website. Undergraduate students' papers must be 3000 to 3500 words in length and graduate students' papers must be 3000 to 5000 words in length. The program will include two phases, and the winners from the regional phase will move on to the final international phase. In the first phase, papers in languages other than English will be accepted. In the second phase, we will help the students to have their work translated into English if necessary.

Is registration mandatory?

Yes, it is mandatory to send the registration form by February 27, 2009.

How will I know if my paper is a winner?

Alltech will communicate the date and location of the awards ceremony through contact information provided on your enrollment form.

Can I submit my paper in my native language?

In the first phase, papers can be written in Chinese, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. In the second phase, we will assist the students in having their work translated into English if necessary.

How will winners be chosen?

Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges specially selected for this competition. The panel of judges will be appointed by Alltech, and will consist of three (3) members: one (1) representative of Alltech, and two (2), researchers / professors / industry leaders.

Where can I get answers to additional questions during the competition?

Send an e-mail to: youngscientist@alltech.com.

How are the regional competitions defined and organized?

Countries receiving more than 30 registrations in any of the two categories will be required to run a sub regional competition level in which its 3 best papers will be selected to continue to the regional level. At least 15 papers should be submitted from the 30 registered students to classify the country as eligible to run a sub regional level. Some sub regional levels may be created by the program administrators encompassing more than one country as long as the unified countries on the sub regional level comply with the rules mentioned above and have the same official language.

The United States will be divided in five sub regional levels according to the number of students and their geographic distribution. The five sub regional levels will be defined by the program administrators one month prior to the deadline for the submission of the paper of the regional level and should reflect approximately the same number of students in each region.

Where should I send my paper?

You may upload your paper in a Microsoft Word (.doc) format.

I do not have a registration form. How can I get it?

You will find the registration form online at our website:
